Bunion FAQ

A bunion is an unnatural, bony hump that forms at the side of the big toe. Often, the big toe bends inwards toward the second toe. When this occurs, the base of the big toe pushes the big toe joint outward – developing a bunion.

There are a few causes of bunions. Typically, it is a hereditary condition. People with flat feet tend to develop bunions as they put more weight on the inner side of their feet when walking. A person who tends to wear pointed shoes or high heels for prolonged periods also develops bunions.

The only way for bunions to be fully corrected at the moment is through bunion surgical procedures.

Alternative, non-invasive treatments that we provide here help to improve the condition of your bunion and relieve your discomfort.

To prevent your bunions from worsening, it is important to wear footwear that are broader so that your toes are not bent unnaturally in your shoes.

It is also important to pull your big toe straight using various bunion devices to gradually guide your big toe to its more natural position over time.

Once the big toe gets out of its natural alignment, your natural balance is slightly affected. This puts more pressure on the big toe joints, which further aggravates the condition.

Most people with bunions do not experience any pain or discomfort initially. The bunion makes the foot wider, and you may feel discomfort when wearing shoes that are narrow. If the bunion is inflamed, then you might feel pain at the joint where the bunion develops. If left untreated or uncared for, bunion gets bigger and affects the balance of your foot.

The bunion cushions and bunion sleeve are effective in preventing friction against your bone when wearing tighter footwear. The bunion night splint and bunion bootie are also effective in preventing your big toe joint from becoming too stiff when it’s maintained in a bent position for many years. They also help to gradually guide your big toe to a straighter position over time.

The bunion has been there typically for many years, so it will take time to improve it. Depending on the severity of your bunion, it will typically take more than 6 months to see any visible results.
